One package in

My June Robyn's Nest club came and the pattern and yarn are loved (stitch markers already in play). I have other yarn that will become the sock pattern - thinking first pair for summer of socks and the yarn will become a cowl, (I think). The yarn is Alexandrite in 100% worsted wool, dyed by Biscotte & Cie and the colours belong on my neck and not my feet.

Robyn also sent a Canada pencil and sucker, and a lovely cocoa tea.

Just what I needed after a wearying dreary day.

happy 1st Monday of June

It's a semi happy day. A little befuddled and confused. My right eye (the good eye to date) has a twitch. Invisible if you are looking for it, but try looking through that eye sometimes. I first really noticed it in March - stress month - and figured once things slow down and life gets a little better and... April was a little better, vacation plans and all that. May has been up and down. This past week has been insane. But I'm not more stressed. I'm just talking about the freakin annoying eye twitch thing. Computer screen does it one minute, knitting the next, just chilling out does it. When I am upset or extra stressed, it also comes. So what to do.
I figure I will call the optometrist first - it has only been a year since the last exam, but maybe the eye is working too hard. I've had some recommendations. Less C**ff****. Like hello - I consume the stuff (usually) before 8:00 am - unless it's a stressful day - then I have some more.
Thing is, I don't drink coffee for the caffeine. I really enjoy my coffee. Decaf coffee doesn't come in as rich flavours and variety that I like. I may have to switch again - did it for awhile, but then needed the caffeine for a boost and well you get used to it.
Less stress. Uhm - I think I will bring the gurls along (of course when meeting people for the first time they are perfect...) suggest they try talking to father #2 for a bit, find a way to make #1 pay support, and well that's a start right...

on the Knitting side of things...I finished some socks - except for the embroidery. That requires a non twitchy eye, patience filled, childless time. It will occur (Ihope).

Here they are:
Tsock Flock Club - Firebird, knit on 2.0 mm 2 at a time circular. Fun pattern and fairly quick knit. They fit nice. One of them kept/acquired 2 extra sts for a time (the right one I think) but they don't look too different and at this point all the stupid ends are woven in. (I am a minimalist when it comes to ends - this one had 2 extra ones due to some small gurl twirling my chair and my yarn in the base - it broke on it's own - knitting was not damaged however).



Here is my current scarf in progress (another pattern repeat finished since then)
This is the Grasshopper Scarf in Plucky Knitter fingering merino (Malabrigo style). I am knitting it on 2 3/4 mm and so far adjusted the pattern to include 19 rows of seed stitch at the beginning. Love the pattern and the knitting is fun.

A week between blogs...

I don't even realize how time flies - I mean I read blogs and go on ravelry and comment and send a few emails, but never really look at my own blog to say - OOPS I haven't blogged in a while.
I am already off the yarn wagon. Mel's fault as she wanted me to meet her at Kismet and I wanted some solid yarn for these, so off I went. Found some needles, yarn for the socks and then some other just cause I loved the colour. That was last week though. So far it is Tuesday night and I haven't fallen off the wagon for this week. But have you seen this yarn or this or....

Knitting has been accomplished. I have 8 completed blocks on sis's afghan and the 9th is almost done (like 8 rows from completion). However I was working on Monica the other day and realized that it was time to start the ruffle and then the afghan was pushed aside.
I want to cast on for this. Isn't it gorgeous? I'm thinking a nice solid blue or green for my Mom for mother's day.
And there are rumours that my Tsock Flock Club is sending the Firebird out. That would be really sweet as this pattern looks fun and challenging. (and what's one more project on the needles). So I have acquired 500 yards of sock yarn and knit up NONE. I believe I may be failing in my SSEC and will have to buckle down and make two or three scarves. (they would each use a skein and then I would be down 800 or so and...
Wishful thinking on my part I think.

Passage of time and thoughts

I went to bed last night happy that I had posted something.
Then I realized that although I read all my emails, the current updates to my blogs and commented on a number of them, I did not actually write anything.
Some great knitting is going on - the sis's afghan has 5 blocks (of 16) and Monica has a front and the back is coming along. I plan on knitting the ruffle in one piece.
We have applied for our passports and they have an ETA of April 10th - good, cause we leave less than 4 weeks from today. I will be in Florida in 4 weeks time. Hurray.
I am a member of 4 yarn/sock yarn clubs. I don't know how it happened. There is the Lucky Lurker Sock Club . Love the yarn - 2 colours and the patterns. Then there is the Robyn's Nest Sock Club- Canadian dyer and pattern designer with sweet stitch markers each month. Guess that would be easy to quit as you purchase monthly, but haven't managed to quit yet. Kind of cool, way different for me is the Tsock Flock Club. The first kit is set to come soon and involves yarn and pattern. That is the Yarn Harlot's fault. Finally, the Plucky Knitter Classics got me on Tuesday. And I wasn't supposed to buy any yarn until the end of June (except as required and I was in a weather funk, so some cheerful club yarn is essential... right?!?!?

Sitting here with the afghan on my lap - have to frog rows 1 and 2 already of the second block as forgot am working on strip 3 not 2 and thus it should mirror strip 1 in placement of patterned blocks however that doesn't work with the way I want my chevrons to go. stupid redhead didn't think that far ahead.

I am only in one swap this spring - the Spring Fling Coffee and Yarn Swap . My coffee this morning was one I was likely going to pick up for my pal (provided flavoured coffees were in her list) and for Crystal from my last swap. Unfortunately the chunk of concrete in it has me thinking otherwise. Seriously, and I thought my tastebuds were shot the other day when my mind said this tastes like dirt - just added some more flavoured creamer and called it tasty.
Called the shop that sells it - this is not uncommon to them. Perhaps there should be a warning on the outside of the parcel - or better yet, better inspection of your products. She said it was from their supplier and arrived in with the whole roasted beans and.... IT IS CONCRETE AND TASTES LIKE CONCRETE AND THIS PIECE IS BIGGER THAN A COFFEE BEAN. I don't care if you've wrecked a couple of grinders on this or whatever, perhaps you better do something about it as I can't be the only person who has that concrete dust taste in her mouth.
Perhaps if the coffee had been cheap I wouldn't be upset, but I could have bought 2 packages of my favourite president's choice blend for the price of this and it doesn't even smell like maple and it TASTES LIKE CONCRETE.
I was very polite to the lady from the distributor/grinding company and will go in and get my replacement package. I think I will buy myself a grinder. And ask her for whole beans this time around. At least then I can 'strain' out the concrete chunks before I grind.
I promise not to give this coffee to my swap partner.
Ruined my whole coffee day.

On not buying yarn...

I didn't, not really. I mean I sold some on ravelry, so that meant I could replace it and it won't come until end of April and...
I'm weak, I confess.
But it is Scout's Swag club III and I like things a little different occasionally.
Bad knitter.

SPOILED - and they aren't even done yet!!

So today was a little busy - big gurl had an eye check up, all is perfect (my hair is curled tighter than normal with prayers that she avoids glasses even though she is dying for a Barbie pair).

Lunch at Joey's Only Seafood - cause I was craving fish and chips and figured it was a smidge healthier than McDonalds (big gurl's first choice).

Shoes (black Mary Janes), boots (Hannah Montana useless $%^^%%) and a pretty coat (sparkly pink with fake fur lining) were bought for the big gurl. She received money from her grandparents in Florida and I had promised to buy her shoes as her others (last Christmas gift) were destroyed. The boots were purchased due to the fact that, well all the other gurlz do have them and her grandparents would have bought them for her. The coat - well she has one winter coat - it goes everywhere, she needed something pretty and it is at least a size too big, so should last a couple years. Plus it was all on sale.

Little gurl - two fleece sleepers - cause she doesn't stay under her covers and gets as cold as me, and a sweet My Little Pony - with the money from grandparents again (also on sale).

And a Madeline video, since the other Christmas present is still winging it's way too me.

Little gurl has a nasty cold thing going on - I went to two different shops today, I had the Dimetapp in my hand and cart, but when we got home it wasn't there. At least they didn't charge me for it. I called the little pharmacy around the corner for it - it's off the market?!?!?!? I was pleasant with her, but I know it was in the store. This stuff is amazing for the little gurl's cold thing - we wouldn't have survived last winter without it. ARRGGHH

Me - well some travel sized toiletries, new contacts, groceries and oh yeah - my swap packages have arrived - or portions of them.

First up - WWCS - this one I know is not complete as my spoiler was ill, but wanted to make sure I got something.

This was what I saw when i opened the box - and it smelled like pine needles.

In the box -Hazelnut flavoured coffee and a gorgeous tall mug with a knitting embellishment (it was in the cute reindeer bag). If it hadn't been after 4:00 pm I would have brewed some right up. Smelled heavenly.

I also received my Harvest Sock Swap package (forgot to take a picture before I opened it). Here is all the glory.

Must go now as little gurl is crying and coughing and... I don't know that I will make it to work this week after all..

Hooray!!!

I did it!!!
I finished my Harvest Sock Swap Sock. It is more wintery than harvesty but so gorgeous and just too big for me, so that means it will fit a larger foot and oh wow!!!
Thank goodness, cause tomorrow is house winterizing day and then Tuesday is work and union meeting and Wednesday is test and then they still expect me to work this week.
I hope on Wednesday night to sit down and assemble my packages (SP11 one too) I don't know if I will get a chance to make my something special for these packages, but I have their addresses, so maybe, I can send that later. We will see.
I promise to post pictures as soon as I take them and get them into the computer.
OH and I turned the heel on big gurls first sock and love the way it looks and it fits.
Maybe I can squeeze that in before bed yet.

Finally

..on Thursday I went to work and there was lots of it.
...at about 4:00 pm today I figured out what I do there and did it (JK - but felt pretty dumb some times).
..I have half my dishes done - the other half, well I came over to turn the computer on and forgot to go do them. I should go right now and ...
...my Yarn Pirate Booty club arrived. Killer Bees is the yarn and there were TWO yarn pirate circular needles - size 2.25 and 2.75; 2 sizes I did not have in circs. HOORAY
..I found the little something for my SP11 pal and ordered it (may have mentioned that already). It arrived today - less than five days. Shop at the Sweet Sheep for speedy delivery Robyn's Nest is also fast, just didn't have this item.
...I am on the homes stretch of the harvest sock - I have learned my lesson and will try it in the recommended yarn (provided I have it) first from now on.
...worked on big gurl's socks and am halfway through the gusset increases.
...Friday, and I have a 3 day weekend due to remembrance day. Of course, there is still lots to do.
Only thing left to do ... figure the camera out again.

It's funny when you go to your own blog and you think - Tuesday? I haven't been on since Tuesday?
But that's probably right as I wasn't on at all on Thursday or Saturday and the computer didn't work well on Friday.
Oh well.
I am in on the Secret of the Stole. This is pretty exciting. It's on Yahoo and there is some linky thing but believe me when I say I'm still trying to figure out how to get the SAM4 and SP11 and ravelry and Booty club and Lucky Lurker's Club and....
You get the idea. I got the Scout's Swag button on, but just can't figure this out.
I finished the Needy socks - ends and all. Not blocked yet, but hey it's freezing here. I know, I complained when it was too hot, but understand this - I have two pairs of socks (not handknit) on, corduroy pants - the warm kind, long sleeved fleeced tee shirt and a fleece zip up sweater. My fingers and toes and nose are cold. (am afraid to turn furnace on for fear the whole place will smoke up or something - and the unwritten rule that not to turn on until after Thanksgiving - Canada not the USA)
Now you understand how those guys get me - they are hot blooded and well it's not that I am a cold hearted bitch, but it sure feels like ice running through my veins - and my gurls? the big one runs around in capris and a tank top. I was cold just looking at her. The little one, I put extra layers on, cause she is kind of in between. I thought extra fat kept you warmer?
(that's aimed more at me than the little one - but the big gurl - she is the skinny one in the house)!!!
What's going on chez moi? well we won't mention the digital phone and internet issues or the complete melt down over the ever growing cracks or the mess on the floor and the 'it tastes yucky' before the first minute bite went down or the all around grumpiness of me.
But my allergies have been better - however, tomorrow I go back to work.
I am knitting on one of my frog pond socks - they kind of grew on me so I am just about ready to pick up the wrapped stitches for the short row heel.
Did I tell you I had a monkey sock all the way down to just before the heel turn? Yep and that was the second try - the first one made it to one full pattern repeat. They were both frogged. Too tight. I tried 2.25mm first and that was way too tight - the big gurl told me so. So I went with the 2.5mm and a loose cuff. looked good - fit the foot sweet as all get out, but just stretched over the heel. Ugg. I was going to leave it, but the yarn got all stretched looking and there was no way washing would have improved the give.
So I frogged her. Now I've lost my Monkey Mojo. It was gorgeous.
So I am knitting plain vanilla with a funky gusset and a short row heel. Want to make the princess socks from this Knitty though. Anyone know how to convert that down to a size 12 or so in gurl?

Back to School time

So, yesterday the big gurl started Grade 1. I took the day off work (a personal day, it's called) so I could take her to school and meet her teacher and get a feel for her class and stuff. That went okay - picky eater aside, she was enthusiastic about packing her lunch. The little gurl screamed when we dropped her off, but she had 3 days of no daycare so that always throws her off. Mrs. Smith seems nice - an experienced teacher, who seemed a little frazzled, but she has 17 odd kids and at least one parent per child sort of hanging around. One big hug and off the gurl went. No pictures, cause why on earth would I remember my camera>!>>!>!>!>!>!

I went home - dreading the next part of my day. My ABS light came on and I had been avoiding the brake work for some time. I made the call and took the car in - they take you home again while they do the work (worth any extra in the bill). To give Steve credit, he really tried to ensure my gurlz and I were ultra safe, but when the difference is $500 and well you'll have to do it soon (rather then now or else) I'll take the necessary work and leave the needs attention for later. When the parts come in at $160 each (supposedly lifetime) you have to take a step back.

That took up most of the early afternoon- a few groceries for school and then pick her up again. I did not get everything I wanted to done - and I frogged needful #2. I had switched the colours because I was afraid I would run out. As I was knitting it, I counted the rows and figured I was using basically the same amount of yarn for each. So I have started it again (try #3). Give me some credit here - I was two rows away from the TOE and this was a cuff down. I am now on row 2 of the ribbed section. I cast on a hat for nephew #2 - not really liking the yarn - Tuffy by Briggs & Little. Recommended for socks - ouch. We will see,

Allergies today were so bad, everyone I talked to asked. Sounded like a snubbed up sniffler. And of course today I had 7 messages and people actually called me and well - I was very productive. At about 3:00 pm I went down to the Cash Office with some cheques for accounts and realised that I could take a 5 minute break cause I hadn't taken a morning or afternoon one. Unusual for me, but there was a day last week when I felt I did nothing. (I mean I worked, but nothing went anywhere, it was so slow).

How was school - she's ASKING for homework. Weird child. She does not want to go to daycare anymore, but that is not possible - unless I win the lottery. Guess I better pick up a ticket or something!

All the Ontario yarn enthusiasts may be at this on Saturday. I don't know that I will as it is just under 2 hours away, but it is tempting. No money? isn't there always money for stash?

I received a welcome package for the Lucky Lurker's Sock Club. I was terrified when there was no yarn (ya don't think I actually read the letter first do you?). Angela did an awesome job putting this together - tape measure, scrap yarn, notions bag, Toe up sock pattern and a step by step instructional for kitchener stitch grafting. I just have to reskein that yarn, wash it and then start again!!!! (in my spare time ya know).

I cleaned the kitchen this evening and the bathroom has gotten a good start. Then I turned on the computer and that was it. I am going to sign off now to a)wash the dishes; b) clean the toilet; c)clean the garbage cans; d) put away the vacuum; and e)the shoes - I had 5 pairs at the front door - and I get upset with the gurlz over 1 pair. Tsk tsk.

Sunday - was time at Grandma's and the big gurl's Dad did show up. It was a great day of just chilling and watching the gurls play. I was so allergic I wanted to scream, but I took a Cold & Sinus pill to try to decongest and it worked. So I did that yesterday - and when I found them, today too. There is a 'wear-off' on these things and i should likely find the plain old sinus ones. Hate to spend the money when they are right here.

Oh - lunch this morning for the big gurl was a slight screaming match as somehow it's my fault she doesn't like anything. She said she had enough and even left her raisins and carrots. Funny all the 'sweet' treats disappeared.

I am going to have to watch the big gurl though. She is a 'holder' and 'waiter' when it comes to going to the bathroom. 3 days of stressing to get it out - and tonight I gave her 'jelly' and it took less than 2 hours. I'm not sure if there is a reason for this or not, but the poor gurl lays a bigger one than I do. Just knocks her out too. Will have to watch the chocolate and make sure enough fruits and veggies (she likes only two fruits - veggies are a bit better). Of course, the little gurl feels she is getting gypped cause the treats are coming out but she isn't getting any.

Parenting - not for the faint of heart or remotely sane!!!!

Where are all the YARN fiber artists?

Today the big gurl and I went to the Marshville Heritage Festival - given current allergies and PMS felt this was the lesser of evils - she wanted Marineland and its rides of a Fair.
I went curious about heritage stuff and hoping to seem some yarn fibrey goodness. After a short tractor driven wagon ride, we arrived at the front gate and wandered the various artisans. There was no yarn goodness to be found, but the big gurl helped weave around on a basket and then we wandered through the demonstrations and displays. We used one of those big two person hand saws, to cut an inch thick circle from a log and had it 'branded' with MHF 2007. Very nice. I perused the information booklet and was pleased to see a listing for a spinning/weaving demonstration. After some surveying, juggling and a bathroom break, we found the General store and right next door there were spinning wheels (2) and some weaving. What a disappointment. There were two skeins of yarn lying on motionless wheels with some roving and some spools of ply 'placed' there. The weaving was a little more exciting and there was a drop spindle. But that was it. Arrgghh. I know there is wool farm less than a half hour away from where we were, so where were they? (don't repeat that fast). All in all it was a great day -ending off with the purchase of water, a visit to the library (i picked up HP book 6 - the 5th one lost me for a bit so I never picked this one up - I am enjoying it and love the little knitting references). Bought something for my SP - for September - must remember to get that ready to mail. For us there was Honey straight from the beekeeper himself, some fresh apple fritters and apple cider and some kettle popcorn - the sweet stuff. Funny that big gurl of mine - we get home and I ask if she wants mashed potatoes for supper and she says, But what are we having for lunch? Since she didn't want/have a proper lunch, she suddenly wanted one.
Fell off the yarn wagon cause SAM4 has some lovely links and their is some (and less than there was when I went over) beautiful yarn at The Plucky Knitter - please someone else buy the rest!!!!! But my sp will be getting something lovely for next month!!!

I have also found a 'local' yarn here because of Zonda and it was the blogging world that introduced me to Knitting Daily and the girls at 'Pickin and 'Throwin who helped me figure out how to be a picker. Life, Stitch'n'Pitch and other lemons

So - what did I say about being a better blogger?!?!?!
Amazing how life and commitments can slow you down and distract you. Part of it has been that at work there is a lot of data entry and system errors and corrections and time is of the essence. Berry frustrating (the v did not want to type). The gurlz are busy and want Mama. There was the Special Project to finish (almost done now). And the projects that just lept on the needles - a Squatty Sidekick which has been felted and embellished - needle felting, thank you Nellie (aunt) and also Susan B. Anderson and also the LYS which had the necessary implements on for 60% off. It is beautiful and the big gurl has claimed it for herself. The only gurl couzin will have to hope auntie gets reinspired! It was an easy knit so I see no problems there!!!
A pair of socks jumped on the needles too. Thank you Angela of A Swell Yarn Shop!! Your skinny duet, Cowgirl was irresistible and is now over halfway up the foot - both feet at once!!. I thought they would be Monkey socks, but they are something else - found a delightful template in my Knitting Stitches book and then eliminated a row to create what I wanted (after that I discovered a way I could have kept said row in, but oh well).
So I have 1/3 finished pair of socks, 1 and 2/3 finished socks, a felted purse (plus a mini) and tickets to Stitch 'n' Pitch with the Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Angels for August 15th (the big gurl will be at Oma's and the little gurl with her father - or he will die - I don't really mean that).
My friend Kris is coming with me and I am so excited I even got their link. It is here and whether it is linked correctly or not, I don't care right now!!!!!!

Other lemons - lots of stress at work and the heat during the day is rather oppressive - it cools off beautifully at night, but the poor gurlz don't know what to do with it. I am without my Yarn Pirate Booty and my last installment of the Insubordiknit is nowhere to be found.

There are other yarns in the house, but when your yarn is astray without you, it is very sad indeed. Must clean up camera in order to take pictures of WIP and FO. Will get it done tomorrow.

We had a wonderful time with Nellie, Rik and Thymen (dutch relatives) . Thanks for dinner and a day of fun and just coming down!!!! Have a very safe trip home!!

Postless for a bit - perhaps a little postal?

I just realized it's been a while since i posted (for me anyways). I mean I posted on the SAM4 blog and on my 'project' blog, but not here.
We have been busy in our family - Grandpa and Grandma Mary left to make their way to Florida early this morning.
Yesterday we were back in the US ugghh.
Now don't get me wrong, it's nothing personal against the people in the US, it's just with young children you try not to cause them or yourself undue stress - like sitting in stop and go traffic.
But once again, there was the comment of the day - after sitting for just over an hour on the Queenston/Lewiston Bridge so we can go through US Customs (thankfully cool breezes abounded and the occasional comvertible, motorcycle and little childe distracted the big gurl - me my foot just went numb on the clutch - forgot to bring some knitting along).
Typical questions from the customs officer: Where are you going, how long are you going, who are these kids, Is that your mommy honey? Types away on his computer for a minute - You don't come over often. no, no, I don't. Inside I'm screaming - I have to pee!!! my 6 year old has made friends (albeit only visual) while waiting to see you and my little one has gotten her afternoon nap in - I just want to go over there- about 5 miles - no biggee right - just the matter of this big bridge with you (and your lovely friends) making me wait so you can ask me questions, peruse my ID, slightly frighten my child and then you make a comment like that? HELLO?!?!? you are lucky the little one was sleeping and the big one was excited.
It was a wonderful day of sunshine, ARTPARK and waterpark at Fort Niagara.
The company was fabulous - we miss you already David and Mary - move closer please. (not until we have an opportunity to come and see Walt Disney World a few times but a little closer?) A couple of comments struck home - they are envious of the big gurlz father and his mother - Grandma. Unfortunately, we have likely seen as much of them for most of July and possible even August as we will. Kind of bittersweet.
Saturday was deadly expensive - went for new coffee maker - lovely brick red, and to price out dishwasher (the dishes are still waiting to be finished). Very nice lady helped me out and I told her had to figure out the cost for installing the necessary hook-ups. That was done, little gurl given to her father and off the big one and I go to the car shop.
The car has beautiful new oil and air filters, drain plug and 2 new tires. She be needing some new brakes soon, but we want to eat this month. Darn it (tee hee - already paid for the lovely yarn clubs so can't return that). Needless to say, we do not have a dishwasher or a new mattress set (they were so loverly and on sale 'sigh').
I am almost finished knitting the 'project' - a little tweaking to do!
The 2nd M&K sock has a turned heel and we are on the gusset (may be a wee bit of frogging as there is some funny business going on).
I started Amanda's Squatty Sidekick as my mindless/need to cast something on project.
That Yarn Oddities from Pixieriot is calling to me (it's already pullballed, with the required needles and the pattern is already to go). They are to be my August socks for SAM4 (first one ever) and part of me wants to hold off starting them until August and another says finish the M&K and another says - oh just cast on and the next says wouldn't that yarn look nice as Eyelet Rib Toe-ups by Wendy Johnson and the last part says shut up already and go to sleep you have to work in the morning and then you have to block that ... and those socks won't knit themselves and what about the dishes?!?!?!?!?!

Oh - the postal bit - my Yarn Pirate is not here yet and my last Insubordiknit (plus the extra order from her). That is likely all the yarn that will be entering for a bit (I mean Lucky Lurker club and Yarn Pirate are already ordered). I'm pretty sure that's it.
Yes, the lovely Duet sock yarn arrived last week - I will try to get some pics up (sure i said that at least once last week) before the end of this week.

Knitting time

So today I had to wait at the doctor's after my allergy shot. So I knit on sock 2. Since I have had such success with socks, I am in the yarn pirate Booty club and the Lucky Lurker's sock club (duet sock yarn). I also signed up for SAM4 starting in August. Oh and SP something or other. Looks like fun and games to me. Must go figure out how I made something and convert it into words. I love words, don't get me wrong, but sometimes its easier to just do than to write. Oy.
