so nothing spent today. Wow. The Home Depot bill came in and I think i need to return some items (I know I need to). Once I do that, can I spend the credits????
The only hard part about today was that some potato chips made their way to the vending machine and I wanted some. Other than that I had no desire to spend unnecessary funds.
This need to control means I will not be going to the Knitters Fair. I had already kind of decided, but this really ensures that I won't.
I do have to sign the gurlz up for dance and that will be necessary spending. But a mother must do that sometimes.
Oh and our thanksgiving is October 13th this year so the worst thing I have to get through is little gurlz 3 birthday.
It's still really early though....

I'm NOT tired...
...instant headache to a tired parent's ears. I haven't handled it well. Especially since she riled up the little gurl who then wouldn't go to bed without a tantrum. About on a par with this from an angry child.
And that is whom I am knitting a scarf for? Ungrateful ...
How do your Monday's go? Generally speaking I am strange in that I enjoy Monday's because it is the point where the gurlz and I are at loggerheads anyways and we could use a short break from each other. Currently it also has the added factor of the inability to use a portion of my home the way I want to, so I am eager to leave.
Mine go fairly well until about 7:55 am or whenever I open the front door. Seriously. It's like you turn a switch on the big gurl and suddenly she is soooooo tired and just wants to sleep and her head hurts and her pants don't fit.

She's only 6 years, 10 months folks. Do you think there might be some heavy disappointment in this young gurl's life? I went to school for 20 years (21 if you count the half years).
On the knitting front - the scarf is a little further, keyhole thing done and heading for the next set of pop sticks. Sis's afghan got some attention last night, but after reading Yarn Harlot's post on the importance of 'casting off' and reinforcing, it may be headed to the frog pond. I hate doing a bind off or seam when it is just as easy to continue knitting. The shape may not hold. Arrgghh.
What about pictures you say? I am really not in the mood, but maybe I will. Give me a moment.

Well, since I had my camera out and a pretty set up to lay my yarn on, I decided to take some pictures for ravelry re yarn and projects - took 40 of yarn and 4 project photos to post here and... I CAN'T FIND THE CAMERA CABLE.
No place. No how.
Angry now.

Need to cast on a pair of Momma Monkey socks, see here for details.
I think that will be easier than posting pictures today. Sorry.
One last thing. As of March 1st I cannot purchase more yarn for some time. I mean I took 40 pictures of yarn, and I didn't even touch the sock yarn or afghan yarn or sweater yarn or 20 years of stash yarn...or the package coming from this sale. I can see 40 more skeins and I know there are about 100 not in view. (all with specific projects and purpose in mind of course)
So I hereby state that no yarn - not even sock yarn - will be bought until June 30th, 2008.
Except for Noro Silk Garden - for Lizard Ridge (of course the only way to find that yarn is to go into quality yarn shoppes). This includes all yarn not paid for before February 29th, 2008. (cause I have two sock clubs that have been paid for but will continue to arrive after that date) and cause I may need something yet this week.
This may be really hard. If I destash I can replace right?
Sorry Angela and Robyn, it's definitely not personal. Please readers, if you are not on a yarn diet, go shopping in their shops cause they have some great stuff.
I need to go spend some money.

100 posts - and some rules for me
This would have happened a lot sooner if I didn't have to go to work or parent or pay bills or sleep or eat or anything.
It's an interesting point in my life. (my computer is reading 4:56 pm and I just put the gurlz to bed and dinner was over and hour ago and - guess we are on Alberta time?)
What has been happening?
Thursday night, I turned off the computer to go to sleep and remembered the parcel that was in the mail. Because we had company coming for dinner, I just carried everything inside and started dinner. Did I wait until morning to open it? NOPE
Thank you SP. I have Scarf Style from Interweave Press. 3, maybe 7 projects picked out already. There is some gorgeous Knit Pick - just a minute must go find it and feel/I mean properly describe it for you.
ah hem: It is Knit Picks Shimmer, 70% Baby Alpaca, 30% Silk, in Turquoise Splendor. Gorgeous light to dark turquoise all in 2 skeins. I'm thinking perhaps a Scarf Style pattern or there are a couple cute ones in the Holiday Gifts by Interweave Knits. Glad I only picked up one as I see my pal picked one up for herself. You should see the bear in it - OI is it ever cute.
AH hem. Yes yes, back to the treasures from my SP. A gorgeous (handmade?) bracelet in gold and red hues. loverly!!!! Cookie Cutters in pumpkin and bat shapes (with stencil guides for decorating) which found themselves put to excellent use Saturday morning, when I realized the cake from Thursday was at the house we visited on Friday and not available for the company coming that morning. So I quick baked some cookies. (note - the dough for these cookies was patiently chilling out in the freezer since around April 29th, when it was found to be unnecessary for big gurlz birthday). There was some delightful Lindt Milk Chocolate for me (still is about half - what control) and Kinder Eggs for the gurlz (also still one each somewhere, however have not actually seen them so they may be no more).
Thank you so much my SP! You've really made me feel special.
And then..
On Friday, it was very foggy and gray on the way to work. I was feeling a little bit gray myself, until I saw the slice of a rainbow in the sky. In the midst of the gray and heavy clouds, there was just an inch sized slice of rainbow (bigger likely up close, but in my world it covered about and inch). Lifted me out of the doldrums a little.
I have knitted a little. The stole is at row 130 - I have to check now...no it is 143 - so I think it goes to 168 - 24 more rows. Not bad - I plan to get at least 10? done tonight.
Big gurl's socks are both cast on, but there is a bit of a design element issue as when i use provisional cast on, sometimes it creates "live loops" and sometimes just an edge to knit into. The first sock had the latter - and it looks like a seam line - lovely. The second has the former and it also looks lovely. one is ready to begin the gusset and the other is about an inch away. What to do ? I'm bettin I frog the first and go for the invisible seam (problem is it's all in the way I pick up my first row of loops into the chain and I never remember which is which. These socks may be returning to time out.
I finished my first ever pair of Fetchings (knitty) and I am disappointed. I have small hands so I only picked up one ball of the yarn and it was enough to make them , however I (for my personal brain wellbeing) need another inch of cable at the fingers. However I have about a yard of yarn left. But - the store where big gurl left her sweater The Needle Emporium has that colour (if not the dye lot) and I have to go back there sometime.
Mom's first sock is done and the second is waiting for the needle that the big gurls socks are on. (they are on two circs as I catch the second (or maybe the first) up to the other and then I will just use the extra long circ to do both at once).
I threw out the vest UFO from some time ago. I would have frogged but it was not froggable and kept catching and pulling. The yarn may turn into something from Scarf Style as I have enough.
The baby blanket and sweater that was supposed to be for little gurl are (hopefully) going to be completed for grandchild #10 for my parents (NO - NOT ME). The kids already going to get shafted as there is a big brother and sister involved. The Moeibus head scarf is progressing in inches - slow going as it it just a 2 by 2 rib with icord edging. Not the most exciting of works.
Big Gurl's quilt - well, I have to clean my room up again in order to work on it and there are a couple of other things pressing in too.
My Harvest Sock Swap - Love the I love Gansey pattern. however feeling a little meh about the colour as it is more oceanic than harvestic and so... however, maybe I could include some autumnal yarn in the package. I had brought a deep red that was kind of apple harvesty, however the yarn doesn't knit well (for me) to the pattern, so it is not suitable.
Anything else on the needles - not yet, but need to make a chapeau for the little gurl as she does not have a mommy made one and the big gurl could use a poncho with a little more warmth to it. This may be sewn rather than knitted.
What did I do today?
I went to a Craft show and sale. Wow, there is some lovely stuff out there. The one display of handknits was gorgeous - I felt guilty for not buying anything, but the one thing that really bowled me over was not my size. I got some construction paper and felt cutouts - fairytale for the paper and Christmas for the felt. Hopefully a good rainy day filler. A pair of earrings for Mom (I think) and some delightful dip mix that was just delicious.
Then I made some more awesome tomato sauce (from Finny Knits) and here we are.
What needs to be done?
1. The church books - organize and bind them up with a pretty bow for the new guy. Should be doing it now, however i have this thing about working on Sundays.
2. Clean house - not the sweep and dust but the throw things out and give away and organize.
3. Finish hint 2 and 3 of the stole.
4. Get that I love Gansey sock figured out. If the current one on the needles is not going to work, put it aside and try one of the other yarns. Denise shouldn't have to wait forever.
5. Fix up the bathroom, front wall, front yard and get the air conditioner out of the window... I may have to take a day or two off of work in order to really get at it.
6. Buy the new mattress and dishwasher. Just do it.
7. Stop spending money on yarn until next year. (only exception would be - tee hee already - the yarn for the Fetchings and if buying any for SP or swap pals and the Robyn's Nest month by month kits) and.... Okay - I solemnly swear to try really really really really really hard to use stash yarn (oh also doesn't count Lucky Lurker Club - already paid for; and Yarn Pirate - that is the sock club).
8. Make the Christmas gifts this year. (or use stuff purchased over the last 20 years to create gift packages or crafts for others to do).
9. Be a better more patient mother to my beautiful gurlz.
Well, I had best get busy cause there are a lot of things to be done.
may just pop over to a couple of favourite shops - I mean the yarn moratorium doesn't start until tomorrow ... right?
edited to add - I don't have the patience to figure out my camera right now. I have promised my Harvest Swap pal some pics of the yarn and socks, so I have to do it this week, but the pics are just not coming along. i promise lots of pics once I get everything back to normal.
I did figure out my screen so I don't have to scroll sideways through the blogs in order to read.

caffeine...not good?!!?!?
Started the day off okay, but it went downhill.
Upset stomach most of the day. I'm tossing between faulting the coffee or the peanut butter. This is MAJOR problem. They are big favourites and if they are setting me off, then I am in trouble.
But that aside, the lawn is mowed and trimmed to the extent that my 25? foot cord would reach. If that is 50 feet it is really short. This even with the direct energy sales guy coming round to lock in my rates for five years and... HELLO?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Not living single and free have things to do. Can't you just send me a letter or something and I will read it next year??
The special project at work is progressing very very slowly. Wanted to be done by end of tomorrow so wouldn't have to deal with it after the long weekend. Guess not.
Ruined a legal assistant's day today. I DID NOT MEAN TO. I didn't write the ITA, I just do what they tell me.
Knitting was done last night on the socks. Would have progressed further, however measured out the remaining yarn versus the amount needed per row in order to determine when to start the ribbed cuff. I have enough for approximately 20 more rows and since 10 rows make about an inch, I will do 10 more stockinette and 10 ribbed and they will be done. I could start the second set of pull skeins, but I want them to match with my almost black - contrast heels and toes. It will probably happen tomorrow night as tonight I still have to fold the laundry on my bed and empty the dryer and... if I could actually find the letters I wanted on the keyboard this would go much faster.
I was shocked! astounded! almost speechless! so happy! validated! to see that the great Wendy Knits used the same sock pattern as me. Here is me with my first pair of socks using the same toe and heel that she is. WOW.
Her blog is having comments issues though so I couldn't tell her.
I love the grasshopper socks she is knitting. Please visit her for more information and don't steal anything. But maybe I have done just what she said not to? Can anyone tell me if I have hotlinked her or just linked her by putting the comment in my post???? I put a link ont he side and I know that is okay. I think it is okay cause, I have seen similar links in hers but I hope I can sleep tonight over this.

Okay, okay I think I have done this right. Thank you Wendy for your links and guides to internet etiquette. This blogging thing is harder than I thought. I mean, I know how to write, but there are so many RULES!!!!!
Taking allergy meds tonight as not good at all. Only doing a half (yes mom) and hopefully will not totally destroy me. (of course if the little one wakes up screaming from gas pain twice again tonight it won't matter anyways).

Sunday - and blessing of some sort or other.
It was a nice Sunday. Weather wise - it got up to 30 at one point. Didn't feel like it to me - I had pants and socks and hoodie on - some people were in swimwear.
Little one went to her dad's and the big one and I went to church. They sang Jesus Loves Me and she knows the words and just sang her heart out. Love that!
Big one played awhile, and then napped while I got to knit - my goal was to finish the crown of the hat before it was time to go bowling. I did it!!
Bowling was fabulous. They have five pin, which is great.
Now the mortification. The big gurl beat me on the first game. (I beat her on the second by 3 points) I don't remember the score, but she was at least 20 points ahead. Fell down a couple of times - I think they deliberately wax my shoes a little more. They even gave me the 'good sport' prize. I explained it to the gurl and she kind of laughed, but stated - 'AT LEAST YOU WON A PRIZE' True, true. There was chocolate - the Icy moritz squares, nice consolation. They were good. A golf something or other which I gave to 'her Don', and a book of Kakuro puzzles. The best part according to the gurlz was the 'extra' prize bag on the outside. All the kids received a prize bag, which is good otherwise there would have been whining.
I had fund, but it's hard to lose to your almost 6 year old. Of course when the games were over, I bowled a strike and a spare in a row. Oh well.
Since 'her Don' was there the big gurl was in heaven. Don and I decided to have dinner at his house since Diane(wife) is in Montreal and i had these lovely burgers and corn on the cob available and he has a BBQ.
Picked up the little one since we were around the corner anyways.
(Don and Diane are friends of mine from work. Megan and Don have this great friendship that belies the age difference. He calls her Mugsy and she calls him 'My Don".)
Have you ever seen a small child get acquainted with a cat? The little gurl and Pandy, the cat, have met before, but again, the boundary testing. Children are so smart and know just when they've gone far enough, but you know they want to try one more time. I watched it happen. It was beautiful! The girl and the cat staring each other down. The cat allowing the petting until out swipes the paw. There were no claws involved, but by the scream and shaking that occurred, you would have thought her eyes were clawed out. Same thing an hour or so later - and that time all the cat did was walk by her. Love Kids!
Not sure if will be home tomorrow as the big gurlz tummy still not right. I'm hoping to go to work, cause I need a break from my gurlz.
Someone asked me again today how I was enjoying being back to work (it's been 7 months now). I answered honestly. i love it, it's great. She just looked at me and I stated If I was at home, I would probably be looney or in trouble with the law or something. I love my gurlz, but I can't be with them day in and day out all the time. Need adult stimulation.
Am I the only one who feels this way? I mean, it's hard work to stay at home with your kids all the time and my hat goes off to those that do.
On the knitting front, before I sleep tonight I plan on having the crown completed - it should look like a hat - right now it's a funny tube.
For a nice laugh today...

1. Learn to work the toilet seat. You're a big girl. If it's up, put it down. We need it up, you need it down. You don't hear us complaining about you leaving it down.
1. Sunday sports. It's like the full moon or the changing of the tides. Let it be.
1. Shopping is NOT a sport. And no, we are never going to think of it that way.
1. Crying is blackmail.
1. Ask for what you want. Let us be clear on this one:
1. Come to us with a problem only if you want help solving it. That's what we do. Sympathy is what your girlfriends are for.
1. A headache that lasts for 17 months is a problem. See a doctor.
1. Anything we said 6 months ago is inadmissible in an argument. In fact, all comments become null and void after 7 days.
1. If you won't dress like the Victoria 's Secret girls, don't Expect us to act like soap opera guys.
1. If you think you're fat, you probably are. Don't ask us.
1. If something we said can be interpreted two ways and one of the ways makes you sad or angry, we meant the other one.
1. You can either ask us to do something.
Or tell us how you want it done. Not both.
If you already know best how to do it, just do it yourself.
1. Whenever possible, Please say whatever you have to say during commercials.
1. Christopher Columbus did NOT need directions and neither do we.
1. ALL men see in only 16 colors, like Windows default settings.
Peach, for example, is a fruit, not a color. Pumpkin is also a fruit.
We have no idea what mauve is.
1. If it itches, it will be scratched. We do that.
1. If we ask what is wrong and you say "nothing," we will act like nothing's wrong.
We know you are lying, but it is just not worth the hassle.
1. If you ask a question you don't want an answer to, Expect an answer you don't want to hear.
1. When we have to go somewhere, absolutely anything you wear is fine. Really.
1. Don't ask us what we're thinking about unless you are prepared to discuss such topics as SEX, CARS, the shotgun formation, or BASKETBALL.

Little one went to her dad's and the big one and I went to church. They sang Jesus Loves Me and she knows the words and just sang her heart out. Love that!
Big one played awhile, and then napped while I got to knit - my goal was to finish the crown of the hat before it was time to go bowling. I did it!!
Bowling was fabulous. They have five pin, which is great.
Now the mortification. The big gurl beat me on the first game. (I beat her on the second by 3 points) I don't remember the score, but she was at least 20 points ahead. Fell down a couple of times - I think they deliberately wax my shoes a little more. They even gave me the 'good sport' prize. I explained it to the gurl and she kind of laughed, but stated - 'AT LEAST YOU WON A PRIZE' True, true. There was chocolate - the Icy moritz squares, nice consolation. They were good. A golf something or other which I gave to 'her Don', and a book of Kakuro puzzles. The best part according to the gurlz was the 'extra' prize bag on the outside. All the kids received a prize bag, which is good otherwise there would have been whining.
I had fund, but it's hard to lose to your almost 6 year old. Of course when the games were over, I bowled a strike and a spare in a row. Oh well.
Since 'her Don' was there the big gurl was in heaven. Don and I decided to have dinner at his house since Diane(wife) is in Montreal and i had these lovely burgers and corn on the cob available and he has a BBQ.
Picked up the little one since we were around the corner anyways.
(Don and Diane are friends of mine from work. Megan and Don have this great friendship that belies the age difference. He calls her Mugsy and she calls him 'My Don".)

The weekend is for ... resting?
Saturday was busy?!?!?!
I'm not sure. I took it kind of easy this morning (Yep slept on the couch, and the way things are going will be there again tonight). Made banana pancakes at the big one's request - feeling better thank goodness (however did have to detour shopping to buy more drugs for her)
I'd love to say it's because I didn't do anything, but the car is clean - windows, dash and floor.
The front porch has been vacuumed so the gurlz can play there while I'm cooking or cleaning or something.
NEED A GATE!!!!
The little one was up and down, up and down, up and down. And had stopped worrying about her and then get to watch her tumble down. She has a slight mark on the head but otherwise is fine. Mommy had a glass of wine with her dinner - settle my nerves or something like that.
Cooking food for family dinner.
The big one turns 6 next Sunday, and since I've made the rule (for myself) that have to use the food in the house up - I'm talking about the preserved foods that may have moved with me twice already. Sheila Wray Gregoire, who has a website here, www.sheilawraygregoire.com, writes a reality check column and she has some good points. The first one I received was about how we go grocery shopping every week because we have no food, but if we sat down and figured it out, we would have some $450 plus in the house. She suggested using these products and trying to buy what you need instead of storing it for...
I challenged my friend Melinda to try to inventory and work our way through the cupboard and fridge and freezer. There are some things we have to buy - milk, fruit and vegetables, but the rest - do we even know what we have? I know I don't.
So I decided I was making lasagna for birthday dinner. The big one won't eat it but it's her party she can cry if she wants to. And I am making the black forest tart or squares that Woof Nanny had a link to. I had everything except the cherries.
The cake or whatever gets made will be from what's in the cupboards too.
As a note, this isn't just for the birthday - I'm not chintzing the big Gurl. Trying to do this daily, using up what we have. Since I don't know what's there, it's a little hit and miss, but the Lipton's sidekicks pasta primavera was good for dinner and there were some taco chips for the picky ones.
Of course, now I have to start doing that with my crafting. But the yarn is so yummy and well, that would look better in this colour and...
Back to today's activities, the car cleaning took a couple of hours, the naps took at least an hour, shopping this morning - I bought more clothes for me, can we say 'necessities'. You know it's time to replace the undies, when if you move one way, you push out and without major lift action, can't get back in place.
I knit one whole row on the hat. Less than a week to go - and not much time in that week either. I can forgo sleeping I guess, not that big a deal except for falling asleep in front of the boss and...
Need to put the sauce for the lasagna in the fridge as went blog lurking (I did comment on a few) and then someone had more links to yummy yarn on Etsy...
I stayed strong though.
Tomorrow the little one is going with her dad, cause the big one and I are going bowling with a crew from work. Must find our where that is. Meant to call and ask, but the sun was shining and the car was dirty.
Dirty ARRGGHH - the pants the Little one wore for the very first time must clean the dirt from them.
As a sidenote, I won on This Kitten Knits - and yes that is a true story about the big one!

Knit, fold and rules
Knitted some more on the hat today. Lunch and quilt was more of a chat fest as I did nothing more than last week.(found the missing blocks so that accounts for something). So while others were chatting, I knitted. I have this rule that I try to follow with knitting and a standard pattern - Work to the end of the pattern repeat or if a long pattern, to a natural break. Since this pattern has a six row repeat and I had stopped the night before at row 4, I completed rows 5 (cable row) and 6. I really like the pattern and the knitting is going well, but I think my head is too big. 
Found a use for some of my scrappin' paper stash. At work we have an annual meeting for our division and I offered to help. We need big tic tac toe boards and the origami 'matchmaker'. As our budget is limited, I offered to provide the paper - 12 x 12. Figured could get rid of something to a good cause. The bright green paper is for the tic tac toe board and the matchmaker is going to be done in a vintagey pattern. Don't know why I ever bought it, but the group loves it.
Further to the rules of yesterday, it was confirmed for me that I need to be a) deathly ill or b) having surgery in order to be home without the gurlz. Now for some reason I don't think I would be home if I had either of those problems, but that's just me. I also asked what would happen if 1 of the gurlz was ill, could I send the other? No.
So of course tonight, Megan is not feeling well - didn't even eat dinner, just a big cup of juicey water. I gave her some drugs (legal ones) but she was still complaining her head hurt. I think she may have a little bit of heat stroke or something (I'm very susceptible) and the sun was really hot today. Or she's already using the 'I'm sick so i can't do my homework routine.'
Need to find all my bills and find out which haven't been paid yet.
arrgghh.

Tired, Rules and some crafty stuff.
Exhaustion = parenting.
I've cried three times today I'm so tired.
When I dropped Megan at daycare, I was informed that even if I was home sick, she couldn't be there if I wasn't at work. I receive a subsidy to help pay for my childcare (otherwise I couldn't afford to work. I left her there anyways because she was going straight to school. Norah went to daycare too, because I had never been told this before.
Fast forward three hours and I receive a phone message stating the gurlz can't be at daycare if I am at home. Period. Upon further clarification - surgery or deathly ill would be acceptable reasons to send to daycare. Great. So when I'm just sick to the point of hardly being able to stand up (not today's situation but) I can care for my gurlz - FACS should have a heydey with that one. I'm not a bad mother ma'am/sir but I couldn't stand up myself so ...
Since I really can't afford to pay more for daycare than I already do, I raced out and picked up the gurls. No sleep for Mommy. My oldest is so tired that she is... well it rhymes with itchy. The little one had a great nap and is ready to wind down. Me, I can hardly see what I am typing. I confess that I did not sleep all morning while the gurlz were gone, I even did some computer stuff, but that was because, I was aiming for a nap - 11:30 to about 3:00. Not to late that wouldn't be able to sleep tonight.
Whatever!
I got some knitting done though, and talked with Jacque from This Kitten Knits . She has the sweetest knitting markers and introduced me to some beautiful yarn. However, as there is yarn all over the house and I have some coming in the mail, I will have to wait a few months before I can afford Shokay. The hat is coming along nicely, and maybe will be done this week-end.
Need to go find the quilt block stuff for Quilt and Lunch tomorrow, and also some 12 x 12 paper for that activity at work.
Then the gurlz to bed, hang up the laundry and off to bed Mommy. Think will take good strong allergy pill - the drowsy kind!
